Flower gardening

There are few activities that rival the pleasure and satisfaction of growing a garden, and one of the chief delights has to be in the flowers in that garden. Except for the amazement of childbirth, there is nothing that can make you feel as connected to the earth as a garden. And that connection is one that is sadly missing in the lives of so many of us. Gardening is known to be beneficial to many aspects of our lives; it gets us outdoors and, if we do it regularly rather than in occasional bursts (that only make for sore muscles), it’s great exercise. It gets us out in most weathers and keeps us familiar with the reality of seasons. It gives us a chance to learn what a real tomato tastes like. It can provide the freshest possible produce, and it gives us a chance to be adventurous by growing varieties that we hardly ever see in the market, in vegetables, herbs and flowers.

Flower gardening can be as simple as a pot of cinerarias, or as complex as an English garden with its carefully planted borders, plotted for color, height, and season. You can plant a historical garden with the flowers that would have been planted at specific times in history. You can plant a garden with flowers in all your favorite colors. One type of color garden is the monochromatic garden; all white blooms, or all silver and grey foliage. Growing your own cutting flowers has to be satisfying. Just compare the price of a packet of seeds with a dozen or so of the same flower purchased in a shop! You would feel positively rich to have masses of lovely flowers scattered throughout your home, especially after having grown them yourself! Just imagine the beauty and contentment you could derive from your garden if you replaced your useless lawn with a
cutting garden.

You get so much back from just a few packets of insignificant-looking seeds! So, whether you have six acres of roses or just a violet in a pot, flower gardening is truly rewarding.
